Why the hummingbird?

Hummingbird sightings have long held special meaning for those who enjoy the beauty of this unique bird. They are a symbol of hope, joy, and adaptability. The hummingbird can fly backward, forward and side to side while maintaining its in air position. The extrapolation of significance here is that we can go back into our past to learn what we can and make meaning of it without losing our current place in life.

The motion of the hummingbird wings create the infinity symbol when in flight. This can be interpreted as symbolizing the continuity of our lives as well as our unending significance and connectivity with others. It is a very light weight yet powerful bird able to flap its wings at an amazingly quick rate. How utterly lovely to compare this strength and lightness to our strength to confront problems while having a lightness of being that is not weighed down with burdens.

A commonly known phrase associated with the hummingbird is “the sweetest nectar is within.” We truly can find the abundance of what we need inside of our own hearts, minds, and spirits. While it may take time to discover this truth, the knowledge of it is powerful and worth the effort of its discovery.
